Silica gel is the most common desiccant in the market. The chemical composition of silica gel is an amorphous form of SiO2‧xH2O. It is also the only standard desiccant specified by the Chinese National Standards of R.O.C.  
Silica gel is in a translucent granular form. A nano-porous structure allows the absorption of a wide range of materials. Because of this unique property, silica gel is widely used for moisture absorption.

Product Characteristics
● pH value close to neutral. Non-corrosive to metal materials, cause no harm to electrical appliances.
● Has the most powerful moisture adsorption capacity among desiccants. (at 90% R.H., adsorption rate can achieve 35% of desiccant weight or above)
● Sufficient moisture adsorption ability. The relative humidity rate can reach 5% or lower in a confined space with adequate desiccant applied.
● Superior chemical and physical stability. Great resistant towards chemical substances.
● Moisture adsorption level can be effectively monitored by adding blue-colored reagent; it turns red after absorbing moisture.
● A cobalt-chloride-free orange color reagent can also be used, which turns green after absorbing moisture.
● A non-combustible characteristic; outstanding anti-thermal effect.
● Silicon molecules has good stability; remains in its original shape after absorbing moisture, does not become damp.
● Non-toxic, non-corrosive characteristics, causes no harm to products.
● Round transparent shape with no odors, pleasing to the eye.
● Silicon gel can be reused after treated in high temperature. Silicon gel alone at 170℃ for 2 hours, or at 70℃ for 12hours in package.
● Good cost efficiency.

Choosing the Right Specification
It is important to apply appropriate desiccant to achieve the best moisture absorption performance. There could be performance difference due to the difference in humidity transmitting rate between different packaging materials (WVTR=g/m2.day). Before you purchase your desiccants, it is recommended to first have an understanding of the humidity transmitting rate of packages, then choosing the suitable desiccant.

Packaging Materials

• Tyvek®: A special material manufactured by DuPont™, headquartered in the US that can be made to package the desiccant. Tyvek® is the only material approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to come in contact with food and drug, and is also in accordance with the MIL-D-3464 TYPE Ⅰ & Ⅱ standard. Tyvekʼs smooth and dense structure effectively prevents dust penetration. The silky smooth surface is lint-free, making this packaging material suitable for the electronic, food and pharmaceutical industry.
• Non-woven fabrics: The most common packaging material with high humidity transmitting rate due to relative large porosity. Suitable for general applications.
• OPP: Transparent. The user can easily check whether the desiccant is working as anticipated by its color. The labels on the outside are neater and more elegant, suitable for food and drugs.
